In an effort to reach more schools in the Philippines, the Meralco Energy Education Program awarded Energy Ed kits to schools in the Davao and SOCCSKSARGEN regions. 21 elementary schools, 7 secondary schools and 4 integrated schools received the Energy Ed Kits on September 13, 2017 at the Green Leaf Hotel, General Santos City. The event was attended by teachers and school heads from various institutions in the said regions with their respective regional office personnel. Teacher-authors Trina Eleptico and Marivi Castro demonstrated to the participants how to integrate the use of energy education flashcards inside the classrooms. Ms Marivi, a teacher from General Santos SPED IS, expressed in full glee and delight that the flashcards have been useful in order to motivate her students who are children with special needs into learning topics related to energy. The flashcards in their colorful and fun designs encourages students especially visual learners to focus on the discussion. She also added that the cards significantly increased classroom participation. Mr Neil Rara, project officer of One Meralco Foundation, highlighted the vision of the organization to help the Filipinos all over the country especially those in Mindanao. Despite being a Luzon-based company, they have always extended their arms for help and support to communities especially schools in Mindanao. OMF in partnership with Coalition for Better Education seeks to increase the knowledge on energy education all over the Philippines through the Energy Education Program.
